There are so many posts and so-called gurus on attraction marketing but I think they are missing the fundamental principle of what makes people attractive. Think about what kind of people are you attracted to? What type of people seem to be magnetic? It isn’t about little tricks or strategies. The type of people we are attracted to are givers!! This is what the law of influence is all about.
The Law Of Influence: Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interest first.
The Law of Influence is one that I thought about a lot and it really challenged me in a lot of ways. With this Law the authors introduce us to the fact that a personal network is a key for stratospheric success: Pindar’s friend, Sam, clarifies what a network is for Joe, “Now, by a network I don’t necessarily mean your customers or clients. I mean a network of people who know you, like you and trust you. They might never buy a thing from you, but they always have you in the back of their minds. They’re people who are personally invested in seeing you succeed. They are your personal walking ambassadors.”
He went on to say “Forget win-win-focus on the other person’s win” . I was watching the movie, Letters to Juliet, the other night with my daughter, I found it very interesting that the young couple in the movie based their whole relationship on this principle. When one of them wanted to do something, the other would be able to do something too…they referred to this as win-win. Needless to say, cracks started to appear because although this seems all fair it is more a way of keeping score not having a relationship or friendship.
Win-Win, Fifty-Fifty, Fairs-Fair, Even-Steven, I scratch your back-you scratch mine, Follow me-I’ll Follow You, Tweet Me-I’ll Tweet you, Share my content-I’ll share yours…sound familiar? It should we see it everywhere in social media. I have to admit I have been guilty of this too! I’m speaking to myself here too – Don’t keep score…be an extravagant giver! Place other people’s needs first to be a person of influence.
This is a great poem that summarises the law of influence for social entrepreneurs:
“When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world. I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation.
When I found I couldn’t change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn’t change
the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family.
Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world.”
~ Unknown Monk (around 1100 A.D.)
Don’t wait until you are old to be a person of influence, change yourself and watch your influence grow!
